Betsy and Veronique have been rivals for as long as they can remember. Veronique is a rich girl (well…her father is rich, which makes her rich through no merit of her own) with raven-black hair…most of the time (it often changes color to the fantasy of her personal hair dresser). Betsy, on the other hand, is a hard-working smart young girl with blonde hair perpetually tied in a ponytail.

While Vero is ruthless and gets everything she wants-either by paying for it of by shamelessly using her sexy demeanor as a currency-Betsy has to work hard for everything, from the clothes she wears to the good grades she's been getting since junior high.

Although Veronique could have a happy and fulfilled existence, buying or sleeping her way through life, she became jealous of Betsy. Deep down, she knows she doesn't really deserve the life she has (her grades, clothes, cars, friends…), so she unconsciously made it her obsession to do better than Betsy at everything. When Betsy gets a 90 on a test, Vero sleeps with the teacher (man or woman) and gets a 95.

And when she can't beat Betsy, she makes sure someone else does. Like this time when Betsy was top of her jiu-jitsu class and favorite to win the state no-gi jiu-jitsu tournament, Veronique hired a private coach for the next-best fighter and had the pool house turned into a dojo. So the final was closely disputed, but Betsy ended up a silver medallist.

Of course, that rivalry extended to their love life. Ever since junior high, Betsy and Veronique dated Artie, a carrot-headed guy, but never could make him definitely chose between them.

And why would he, since he got the best of both worlds? When he was on a date with Betsy, he felt an intimacy he never felt with anybody else. They could talk about anything, and even old topics of conversation took a refreshing turn. Betsy was witty, brilliant and caring, so his brain loved her. Unfortunately, his body wasn't thrilled. In bed, Betsy was predictable and uneasy. As for the rest, she obviously worked at it a lot, reading books and so on, but sex with her always felt like it was rehearsed.

On the other hand, a date with Veronique was mindless fun. They went to unexpected places, ate at the finest restaurants and spent evenings at some of the fanciest clubs, here and abroad, sipping exotic drinks and dancing the night away. And most of these nights ended in hotel rooms, with torrid sex that almost drove Artie mad with pleasure. Making love to Veronique was like trying to tame a panther. She became a "pro" at an early age and used her unbridled sexuality every time her money couldn't buy her what she wanted.

So Artie couldn't decide whom to choose. Should it be a tender, fulfilling and intellectually stimulating relationship with Betsy, or the wild, tantalizing life that Veronique offered? What's more, he confusedly felt that if Vero had him, she would soon lose interest, so he knew it was in his best interest to delay his choice for as long as it was feasible.
